Frequently Asked Questions

How can I schedule an assessment?

Please call for an initial chat to discuss your concerns and we can talk about next steps and if appropriate, book an assessment. Alternatively you can email wendyanthony@edpsychology.co.uk.

Are you able to provide a diagnosis?

Yes, if appropriate a diagnosis of specific learning difficulties like dyslexia, dyscalculia or dysgraphia may be provided. While conditions such as ADHD, and autism cannot be formally diagnosed, guidance can be offered on where to seek further assessment. I have links with a variety of other professionals including paediatricians, child psychiatrists, specialist teachers and speech and language therapists.

What should I tell my child about the assessment?

Before the assessment, you could explain that an Educational Psychologist is someone who helps children, young people, their families and schools. You could say to your child that we will be doing some activities to help understand their strengths and how they learn. My aim is to make learning easier and school more fun, by finding out what they are good at, what they find hard and what will best help them to enjoy school.

Will this assessment be recognised by the school or local authority?

Schools are required to support children with additional needs, following the guidance set out in the SEN Code of Practice (2014). They should implement reasonable adjustments based on professional advice, such as recommendations from an Educational Psychologist. I would be happy to discuss the assessment with your child's school so that we are working together to support their learning journey.

For children with significant and complex needs, parents have the option to request an Education, Health, and Care Needs Assessment from their Local Authority. My report can be included as part of the evidence submitted, but please note that this does not guarantee the Local Authority will approve the assessment request.
